Letter from Sir Klaus to a Friend, 2023

In 2023, Sir Klaus learned that a friend would be knighted, but he would be unable to attend the event. He came to me and asked if I would pen a formal letter for him. Though I had started practicing, this was my very first calligraphy assignment, and I chose a simple and legible Carolingian script with some Roman capitals.

I confess that part of the reason I chose multiple small (5"x7") cards for this task was that I was not yet confident in my ability to fix mistakes on pergamenata paper and figured I could replace 1/4 of the work much easier than 1 big paper. I had less than a week for the assignment, and I did not want to risk missing the deadline! Looking back now, this is part of an important lesson I impart on newer calligraphers. Start where you are - with confidence level, materials, and skill - but just start!
